• Plot: On January 22, 1879, the 100 or so British soldiers manning the Rorke's Drift mission station in Natal, South Africa were attacked by as many as 4,000 Zulu warriors. The outpost's meager forces fought on, and 11 of the survivors were awarded the Victoria Cross for their valor.; Director Cy Endfield and actor Stanley Baker read an article in the battle and saw the makings of a great film. Producing it themselves, it would be three long years before Zulu reached the screen(in 1964).; Praised for it's truly epic battle scenes, Zulu boasts the thunderous excitment of classics like The Charge of the Light Brigade. Zulu is also noted for it's accuracy., which both Endfield and Baker insisted upon. Adding to Zulu's sense of realism is it's cast, with (Sir) Stanley Baker joined by Jack Hawkins, Nigel Green, Patrick Magee, a then unknown Michael Caine and thousands of Zulu extras.
