How do I know if a product is ‘Used’ or ‘New’?

On our website, all used products are clearly marked with a 'Used' tag on both the collection page and in search results, ensuring transparency and ease of browsing. Additionally, you can refine your search with filters to specify the condition of the products you're interested in. It's important to note that all our collectibles are sourced as used items, guaranteeing a unique and varied selection.

Do you provide information about the rarity or collectibility of items?

The Beat Goes On lists which edition an item is, providing insight into a product's rarity. However we do not provide any additional information about the rarity or collectibility of items.

Will I be charged sales tax?

All items are subject to Ontario HST (13%) regardless of destination due to CRA federal and provincial tax laws.

What is a Full Screen movie?

In the realm of movies and home video, the terms "full-screen" and "widescreen" refer to the aspect ratio, which is the proportional relationship between the video's width and height. Understanding the difference can enhance your viewing experience and help you make informed decisions when buying or selling films.

A full-screen film has an aspect ratio of 4:3, which is the same shape as traditional tube televisions. This format fills the entire screen of these older TV models, hence the name "full-screen." However, with the advent and adoption of modern widescreen televisions with a 16:9 aspect ratio, the full-screen format can appear outdated. When played on widescreen TVs, full-screen films either get stretched to fill the wider screen or are displayed with black bars on the sides to maintain the correct aspect ratio without distorting the image.

On the other hand, widescreen films take advantage of the larger screen space to display more of the action and scenery, offering a viewing experience closer to what the filmmaker initially envisioned.

At The Beat Goes On, we generally prefer the widescreen format as it provides a superior viewing experience on modern equipment. However, we understand that some films are only available in full-screen, especially older or rarer titles, and we're always interested in preserving and providing access to unique films, regardless of format.

If you have more questions or have a full-screen film you'd like to sell, feel free to visit one of our nine convenient locations across Southern Ontario. Our team of movie aficionados is always ready to assist you!

How do I know what songs are on an album?

We understand sometimes you're looking for a specific song and aren't sure which album it belongs to. We suggest visiting All Music or Discogs, two excellent resources for artist and album information.  If you can't find what you're looking for there, contact us by clicking here.

Why are in-store items cheaper in price than those listed on the Beatgoeson.com?

The Beat Goes On adds a transaction charge to each item ordered from the web site.  This charge is used to cover the administration costs of our on-line services which include shipping and handling between stores, and also facilitating and processing orders.  This transaction charge is already included in the price that you see on the site.

I saw a used item selling for the same price as brand new. Can this be adjusted?

We always strive to have competitive pricing, but with hundreds of thousands of titles in our database, it's possible that we've missed dropping the price on a particular item. Please contact us here if you feel that an item is priced incorrectly and we will look into your concern.

Are bargain bin items scratched or damaged?

It's understandable that the term 'bargain bin' might trigger some red flags in your mind about the product's condition. Not to worry though because all items in our bargain bins are subject to the same guarantee as any other item in our stores.  Items are generally placed in the bargain bin when we have several copies of them, if we have decided to no longer carry that particular item or, in the case of DVDs, if the item sells for under a certain price.

How do I know if the digital access code or DLC included with my purchase is still valid?

Unfortunately, digital copy access codes and DLC included in Blu-Rays and video games can only be redeemed once.  Therefore, there is no way of determining whether a code has already been redeemed.  Because of this, The Beat Goes On offers no guarantee on any digital copy access codes or DLC found in discs sold at our stores.

Can I search for an actor or director?

Absolutely! You can use our search feature to find movies by entering the name of an actor, or director making it easy to browse our collection of used movies featuring your favorite stars. While we do our very best to keep this information up to date and accurate, occasionally there are titles missing from a search using an actor or other artist. In that instance recommend using a database such as IMDb or Discogs to find the names of specific titles you have in mind, and search for that title directly on our website.

Can I search for an artist or band?

Absolutely! You can use our search feature to find music by entering the name of an artist, or band making it easy to browse our catalogue of used music featuring your favorite musicians. While we do our very best to keep this information up to date and accurate, occasionally there are titles missing from a search using an musician or other artist. In that instance recommend using a database such as Discogs or IMDb (if you're looking for movies) to find the names of specific titles you have in mind, and search for that title directly on our website.

Can trade-in credit be used for online purchases?

When trading in your previously owned items, you may choose the option to receive a store credit as payment. This credit from a trade-in is only useable in-store, at any of our physical locations. If you'd prefer to use the store credit value online, you can request your trade-in total be put on a gift card at any of our 9 Beat Goes On locations. Physical gift cards can be used both online and in-store.

My order was declined, but still appears available. Why?

Each Beat Goes On location uploads their current inventory list to our website throughout the day.  Typically, this functions without fail, however sometimes a technical issue will prevent the transmission of a store's current inventory.  If this is the case, our inventory could become temporarily out of sync.  If you encounter this issue, please do not hesitate to contact us through our website feedback feature here. We'll be happy to look into it for you.

Are all products on your website in stock?

Our website serves as both an online store, and a wishlist catalogue for many of our customers. Because of this, we display products that may or may not be in stock. If a product is unavailable, there will be an 'Add to Wishlist' icon on the product thumbnail. It will also lack an 'Add to Cart' button on it's product page. If a product is available it will have an 'Add to Cart' button on the product page.

Because of changing availability in our warehouse, some items may require more than 2-5 days to fulfill.  Some products may no longer be available.  If an item is no longer available, your order will be cancelled and you will receive a full refund.  We reserve the right to limit quantities on any transaction to one and to cancel any order for any reason at any time.  This is a retail consumer site and we do not sell to dealers.

What payment methods do you accept?

On our website we can accept Visa, Mastercard, AmEx and Discover, as well as Apple Pay and PayPal. In stores we do not accept AmEX or Discover.

Are the prices on the website the same as in stores?

Prices on this site do not necessarily reflect pricing in Beat Goes On retail locations.  Website inventory does not reflect the inventory of any of our retail locations.  We do not price match in-store for online prices.

Can I pay for an item with a Beat Goes On gift card or credit voucher?

On beatgoeson.com both physical and digital gift cards may be used at checkout. Credit vouchers are for in-store use only, but can be used toward a physical gift card at any of our 9 Beat Goes On locations. Physical gift cards can be used both online and instore. Digital gift cards can only be used online.

I’m having trouble browsing for what I want on mobile. How do I fix it?

If your search results on mobile are too broad, you can bring up a filter that will allow you to narrow your results by availability, price and product type.  This filter is off by default, but can be activated by clicking the 'filter' button at the top of any search results page.

Can I pay for items by trading in my own used CDs, DVDs, Blu-rays, Games/Consoles, or records?

Looking to downsize your collection or do some spring cleaning? Bring over your used media to the BGO. We offer cash or store credit your used CDs, DVDs and Games. Our credit offer is 30% more than our cash offer.  For more information about selling your used items to us, click here.

Can store credit be used at another location?

Yes, all The Beat Goes On credits, exchange vouchers, and physical gift cards can be redeemed at any of our locations, regardless of where it was issued.

I placed a reservation for an item in-store. Do I still have to put it on my wishlist?

An in-store reservation is only applied to the particular Beat Goes On location you visited. Items on your wishlist are checked for availability at all 9 Beat Goes On locations. For items you are really excited for, we recommend placing products on your wishlist.

I had a bad experience at one of your stores. Who can I contact?

We are always eager to hear any comments, criticisms or feedback regarding our staff and our stores. Please leave your comments here with as much information as possible and you will be contacted by a member of our Head Office as soon as possible.

Do you buy Full Screen Films?

When it comes to selling or trading in your movie collection, the format can often impact the value and desirability of your items. At The Beat Goes On, we primarily focus on providing our customers with the best viewing experience, which typically comes from widescreen formatted films. However, we understand that there are exceptions to every rule.

We generally do not purchase full-screen films, but there are certain circumstances where we make exceptions. If a film or television show was originally released in a full-screen format and that's the only format available, we are open to purchasing it. This is often the case with some older or rare films where a widescreen version was never created.

Additionally, we might make the occasional bargain bin purchase for full-screen films. These are selectively considered on a case-by-case basis, usually when the film is in excellent condition and is a title we believe our customers would be interested in.

So, if you have a full-screen film that falls into one of these exception categories, feel free to bring it to one of our nine convenient locations across Southern Ontario. Our knowledgeable and friendly staff will be happy to evaluate your film and provide a fair offer.

At The Beat Goes On, we strive to maintain a wide-ranging collection of movies in the preferred widescreen format, but we are also passionate about preserving and providing access to unique and hard-to-find films, regardless of format. Our goal is to ensure that movie enthusiasts can find and enjoy the films they love, in the best possible format available.
