Meanwhile, his long-suffering wife, Else, has learned to turn a deaf ear to most everything he says, except for the occasional response of 'rotten pig' when he gets too personal.; ; The biting humour and jaw-dropping parody of ''Till Death Us Do Part' did not do much to soften the controversy that continually siwrled around the series. The Garnettes were an unlovable clan and their story lines had never before been explored on television. During its ten-year run, everyone from religious leaders to politicians, the media and even the network itself regularly knocked the show. However, the public loved Alf in all his red-faced, bombastic glory. 'Till Death Us Do Part' was a bracing does of vinegar in a sea of sweetly bland TV programming. Entertainment would never be the same!
