The story, set in the 1930s, is about a down-and-out boxer mixed up with mobsters and fixed fights. Conway plays Bags, a dim-witted fighter with a perfect record - 20 fights, 20- knockouts and 20 losses. When his trainer Shake (Don Knotts) befriends a gangster involved in the fight game, they unknowingly agree to a series of fixed matches. Not realizing that his victories were all setups, Bags accepts a bout with the defending champ called 'The Butcher,' ending with a hilarious showdown for the heavyweight championship of the world.
