Suzanne (Pauline Etienne) is a beautiful young girl enjoying a quietly privileged bourgeois life, making her abrupt expulsion to a convent entirely perplexing. She resists religious structure at every turn until her mother finally discloses her own sin – bearing Suzanne as an illegitimate child. Left with no other option, the dejected young girl pronounces her vows. Still uncertain of her path, shuffled from convent to convent and oppressed by aggressive and inappropriate mother superiors (including César-winning Isabelle Huppert), Suzanne determines to continue her resistance to imposed religious values and the dehumanizing effect of cloistered life.; ;
