He describes how he and his comrades felt, seeing the horrific scenes that confronted the brave liberators.; ; The majority of the prisoners had been forced by the Germans to leave the camp as the Russian Army approached Auschwitz, and many had perished on their ‘Death Marches’.; ; Vorontsov was able to record the plight of the remaining six thousand prisoners, the instruments of torture and death, the pitiful remains of the dead, the results of the Soviet investigations and the closing of Auschwit, in February 28, 1945.
