It's far from a sure thing, though, since Gabe's fighter is 'Honey' Roy Palmer (Gossett), a cranky, over-the-hill 48-year-old who has just come out of retirement. Gabriel gelingt es, das Ekel Gillon zu einer Wette zu verleiten: Der von ihm gestellte Boxer Roy Palmer, ein Kumpan aus alten Tagen, will es binnen 24 Stunden gegen zehn beliebige Faustkämpfer aus Diggstown aufnehmen. Selbstverständlich spielen beide Parteien mit gezinkten Karten: Während Gabriel vermeintliche Gegner besticht, macht Gillon mit miesen Tricks Boxprofis zu Bewohnern von Diggstown. Aber Gabriel hat sein Trumpfas noch nicht ausgespielt.; In bester Manier des Überraschungs-Spaßes 'Der Clou' inszenierte der Profi Michael Ritchie ('Die Bären sind los', 'Fletch I & II') seine Gauner-Sport-Komödie als Parade kerniger Dialoge, harter Fäuste und ausgebuffter Tricks. Nach einem holprigem Anfang sorgen die 'alten Hasen' James Woods ('Auf die harte Tour'), Bruce Dern ('Meine teuflischen Nachbarn') und Louis Gossett jr. ('Ein Offizier und Gentleman', 'Der Stählerne Adler I-III') mit ein wenig Unterstützung von Oliver Platt ('Flatliners') und Heather Graham ('Drugstore Cowboy') für ein flottes Vergnügen, das mit einer formidablen Schlußpointe aufwartet. Im Kino lief der Film nahezu unter Ausschluß der Öffentlichkeit, auf Video wird er zum ganz großen Coup ausholen.
