- Release Year: 1976
- Genre: Comedy
- Plot: For two seasons (1976 – 1978) and 37 episodes, Don Rickles brought his distinctive brand of comedy to NBC television as the star of CPO Sharkey. His targets were many, and his aim was true. His character, CPO Sharkey, was politically incorrect before the term existed! As a 24-year naval veteran, CPO Otto Sharkey had pretty much seen and heard it all. The recruits he whipped into shape at the San Diego naval training center received most of his shards of wisdom. Sharkey has plenty of ammunition for his insults and putdowns; he's actually very fond of his men though, and usually must protect them from mealy-mouthed boss Lt. Whipple and gruff base commander Capt. Buckner. The men of Company 144 may have been hockey pucks, but they were his hockey pucks — ready, willing and able to endure one verbal shark attack after another.; ; In Season One, Sharkey often goes above and beyond the call of duty. He quells a boot camp mutiny brewing in his group, intervenes as a marriage counselor for a disruptive new recruit, and heads south of the border to Tijuana to spring his guys, who were thrown in the slammer for cheering the bull at a bullfight. Sharkey's refined people skills land him behind bars. That's when the real fun begins. Realizing that he's more than twice the age of his charges, Sharkey tries to think young. A dapper gent carrying a shoulder purse stokes the gossip mill when he secretly visits Sharkey at the barracks. It turns out the mysterious Sylvester is a 'rug' merchant. Sharkey, an avid Johnnie Ray fan, tries to get funky at the Disco Cave with his buddy Chief Robinson. A couple of chicks teach Sharkey how to do the Bump. He may need that gag birthday truss after all.
