- Release Year: 2005
- Genre: Music
- Plot: At the end of the summer of 1979 renown Australian documentary film maker Peter Clifton travelled to New York to film the final concert of America's world tour.; ; Dewey Bunnell and Gerry Beckley, co-founders of America, met at London Centeral High School. They formed America in 1969 with fellow school friend Dan Peek who later left the trio. All three were soms of American military fathers stationed in England.; ; They sky rocketed to fame in 1972 with Horse With No Name from their first album America which was an international chart buster and multi-million seller. Through the 1970s they enjoyed one hit recording after another, joing up with legendary Beatles producer George Martin to perfect their sound. America's classic soft rock featuring Bunnell's evocative word pictures and Beckley's melodic genius combined perfectly. Their music has become standard play constantly on international radio and TV, and their lyrics are indelibly carved into our consciousness.; ; In front of a massive audience in Central Park's open air amphitheatre, the band's founders Dewey Bunnell and Gerry Beckley, with an all star line up of musicians, performed their greatest hits in an electrifying concert captured by Peter Clifton's band of cameramen.; ; Clifton later returned with the band to Hollywood, California, where he continued filming Bunnell and Beckley as they mixed the concert recordings at Capitol's recording studios.; ; To complete the one hour film, Clifton took the band to the Palm Springs desert to recreate the original inspiration behind Horse With No Name.; ; Live At Central Park was originally shot on 16mm colour film. For this DVD release, the original film was transferred to High Definition digital tape and the audio remixed in 5.1 Surround Sound. Additional features include full length commentary by the films director.; ; The only time that America has been captured on film, Live At Central Park not only provides essential viewing of arguably one of the greatest hit song writing teams performing at their best, it also captures quintessential scenes of New York and California in the late 70s, taking you on an extrodinary journey.
