At eleven years old, Ricardo doesn’t understand the meaning of the word “mortgage” but fully feels its impact. He is the new kid in a class where the other students are from wealthier backgrounds, and he feels his honour is at stake. To avoid being exposed, Ricardo resorts to inventing a new family history, which he must vigilantly maintain to keep up appearances for his new friends.
