Indie Spotlight

Kitchener-Waterloo owns few gems as precious as Paul MacLeod. During his nearly two decade career as a musician he has played alongside Can-Rock luminaries, (Rheostatics, Skydiggers, Hawksley Workman), fronted his own prog-rock supergroup, (Hibakusha), and forged a catalogue of his own material, the quality of which could inspire awe and envy in even the most hardened, confidant songsmith. Kitchener's own Busted Flat Records is MacLeod's current home for his music and in the past year they've re-released his entire back-catalogue and his newest work, the staggering "Bright Eyes Fade". The album puts his otherworldy falsetto and tasteful finger-picking at the forefront, showcasing perhaps his strongest ever batch of songs. Fans who've seen him live will find much to love on "Bright Eyes Fade", as the live-favourites they've grown to adore are given a chance to reveal even more of themselves. MacLeod plays every Sunday night at the Boathouse in Kitchener. If anyone's worth seeing weekly, it is certainly him.

Mistee from Kitchener asks:

I've loved listening to your shows since I was very young, and will always continue to listen to them. You really know what you're talking about when it comes to music. I have two questions for you, and I'm not sure that either is really all that answerable but I'll give it a shot. My first question is about Canadian music. It still exists and that's a really good thing, but my question is whatever happened to the multitude of bands that were out in the mid 90's that all sounded unique? Sloan thankfully still exists, but it's really hard to find any of the others that do. As much as I still do love Canadian music, I find it all turning to be top 40 type music. Nothing sounds quite like Sloan, which is a good thing, but no one (except for the Joel Plaskett Emergency sounds even close). What happened to all the original Canadian music that was abundant in the mid 90s?
My second question is...

Diane from Selkirk, Ontario asks:

I have been hearing a song that a young man sings. A love song. He is able to hold a note for a very long time. I was told it was brothers (Dan and Jan) but I don't know if this is correct could you please help?

Rod asks:

Back in 1984 Louise Pitre, a Broadway performer to this day, did what has been called the best version ever of Edith Piaf's famous song "No Regrets". Now Louise is on tour right now and, from her website (louisepitre.com), I was able to call an office that deals with enquiries and they had no answers. Is this version of Edith Piaf's song still available? Have you ever heard it? I've looked in various used CD stores and haven't found it. Need to look more in these venues I guess but I've also done a search at the big HMV downtown without success. Where does one find something really good but not immediately accessible like this song?

Chris W of Winnipeg asks:

I am a big fan of your show OGHONM (ongoinghistory.com) and have just recently started listening to the past shows online at OH.com For the past couple of days, I have not been able to connect to the site... has it been shut down or moved? If so, please let me know where I may access the past episodes as I have only just begun to get into them.
